ANNA ASBURY STONE CHAPTER NSDAR
2021 COMMITTEES

HISTORIC PRESERVATION

AMERICAN HISTORY COMMITTEE

Committee members promote and honor significant historical people, places, dates, and events by sponsoring the American History essay contest and the Christopher Columbus essay contest.

AMERICAN INDIANS

The Committee dedicates itself to honor and serve the original inhabitants of this land. We continue the education of the history and culture of American Indians as well as support the educational and cultural pursuits of its citizens.

PROMOTING EDUCATION

CONSTITUTION WEEK

September 17-23 is Constitution Week. We encourage the public to learn more about the United States Constitution, which was adopted by the American Congress of the Confederation on September 17, 1787. We honor the framers of the U.S. Constitution by teaching the public about historical events by putting up displays, writing articles, giving programs, and more. We strive to inspire all in our communities to protect and defend the Constitution.

DAR MAGAZINE AND OTHER NSDAR PUBLICATIONS

The American Spirit Magazine is an award-winning publication that features stories of interest to everyone who enjoys history, genealogy, patriotism, and education.

DAR SCHOLARSHIPS

Anna Asbury Stone Chapter NSDAR awards 3 scholarships through American History and Scholarship Committees. For more information visit our Scholarships page.

DAR SCHOOLS “Targeting Education; Planting the seeds of tomorrow!”

Education has always been at the core of DAR. NSDAR promotes education by supporting six schools. These schools are in rural and disadvantaged areas where public education was not previously accessible. Each school has a different focus and they serve a variety of special needs programs. Our chapter sends children’s books to the Tamassee DAR School.

LITERACY PROMOTION

The goal of our committee is to promote literacy in our local community by encouraging all citizens to learn to read, to gain self-respect and confidence, and to reach life goals that may not otherwise be obtainable. Anna Asbury Stone Chapter NSDAR supports Guernsey County United Way by sponsoring support of the Dolly Parton Imagination Project to provide a-book-a-month for four children ages birth to Kindergarten.

WOMEN'S ISSUES

The primary purpose of the committee is to heighten awareness of the complexity of issues facing today’s women.

PATRIOTISM AND HONORING PATRIOTS

DAR PROJECT PATRIOT

This committee supports America’s service members and their families in various ways like sending care packages, thank you cards, and more.

FLAG CODE

Our chapter promotes and encourages a strong patriotic feeling and respect for The Flag of the United States of America. At every meeting, we have a “Flag Minute” to learn about our U.S. Flag.

NATIONAL DEFENSE

The goal of the National Defense Committee is to promote an informed membership by advocating a strong American military defense and to preserve our American heritage of freedom. A summary of an article from The National Defender is presented at each monthly meeting. The information is to assure that our chapter members learn how a strong American military defense helps preserve our American heritage of freedom.

SERVICES FOR VETERANS

The Service for Veterans Committee finds ways to say "thank you" by acknowledging and recognizing veterans' service, sacrifice, and commitment to the preservation of our nation's freedom.

OTHER COMMITTEES

SERVICE TO AMERICA

DAR members work tirelessly to promote historic preservation, patriotism and educational ideals in communities across this nation and in overseas chapters. To help highlight the DAR service organization mission, members are encouraged to perform and record their volunteer service efforts. Through Service to America, we hope to demonstrate the DAR’s widespread significant impact in our communities. DAR members are working toward the goal of 19 million hours of community service. Anna Asbury Stone Chapter NSDAR logged 3,000+ hours in 2018. Our goal is to exceed those service hours in 2019 by volunteering to help make our local community a better, more friendly place and to give back to our community in appreciation for the nation we love!
